Chichen Itza

The most famous Mayan ruins in Yucatan, one of the best in Mexico and one of the New 7 Wonders of the World!
Chichen Itza is a large Mayan archaeological site at the northern center of the Yucatan Peninsula, 2.5 hours drive east of Cancun. Chichen Itza ruins include many big and well-preserved buildings that served as temples, as well as structures that were once marketplaces and even ball courts.
Allow yourself a full day at Chichen Itza if you want to cover the entire archaeological zone.

Chichen Itza ruins highlights

El Castillo - a huge pyramid located at the center of Chichen Itza. Don't be lazy - climb all the way up the pyramid, the view of the area from above is amazing.
On Spring and Fall equinox , this great structure casts beautiful shadows in various shapes along the day, and many thousands of Mexicans arrive to Chichen Itza on those days to honor their ancient gods and culture.

The great Ballcourt - a field sorrounded by stone structured that served as a court where the Mayan played their ancient ball game. Clap your hands and listen to the echo returned to you from the stone fences. Now imagine how it sounded centuries ago, when the Mayan citizens crouded the court.

Templo de los Guerreros (Temple of the Warriors) - another important and beautiful structure, its top level is not accessible, and you can see some of the archeological articles the were found there at the little museum next to the site's entrance.

Chichen Itza hotels

There aren't many hotels around Chichen Itza.
I recommend Hacienda Chichen Resort Hotel which is a very good hotel compared to its price, and with a major benefit - it is located right next to the archaeological site.
