Trinidad is beautiful town in central Cuba that you must visit.

Getting to Trinidad

From Havana to Trinidad

The Viazul bus leaves Havana at 08:15 and arrives to Trinidad at 14:00.
A second bus goes from 13:00 to 18:45. Cost: 27 pesos.

From Vinales to Trinidad

There is no direct bus that goes from Vinales to Trinidad. You can take the bus to Havana and then another bus to Trinidad.
My advise is to take a direct taxi from Vinales to Trinidad.

From Camaguey to Trinidad

You can go from Camaguey to Trinidad using the Viazul night bus from Santiago de Cuba. The Viazul bus leaves Camaguey at 02:15am and arrives to Trinidad at 06:45. Cost: 16 pesos.

Trinidad

Plaza Mayor

The Tower Bell of Trinidad, Cuba The historic centre of the town, with some nice buildings around it -
The church of the holy trinity (Iglesia Parroquial de la Santísima Trinidad).
The church and monastery of saint Francis (Iglesia y Convento de San Francisco). Inside there is a small exibit of the Museum of the Fight against Bandits (Museo de la Lucha contra Bandidos). The bandits are counter-revolution forces that fought Fidel Castro's government.
On the top of the church there is a bell tower with a nice view of the town (1 CUC).

Nightlife

Casa de la musica - This is the best place in Trinidad to enjoy live show of Cuban music and Cuban dancing. It is in a central location on town, near Plaza Mayor, always full with tourists and locals (free entrance).

There are also a few other bars that you can try out, all only a few minutes away by foot, like Casa de la Trova, but in my opinion a night in Trinidad not spent at the Casa del a Musica is a waste.

Cueva de Ayala - A disco night club built in a cave (entrance - 3 CUC; 1 CUC during the day, just to see the cave from the inside).

Tourist information

Cubatur - Here you can find general info about the area, meet other tourists that look for partners (some activities require minimum number of participants) and book day trips (one day in advance is needed for most activities).

Outside Trinidad

Playa Ancon

Ancon peninsula is only 7 miles from Trinidad, with a long beach called Playa Ancon.

Valle de los Ingenios

The Train to Valle de los Ingenios, near Trinidad, Cuba Take the old train (3 CUC, you can buy the ticket at Cubatur) that leaves Trinidad at 9:30. On the way the train passes the beautiful area of Trinidad, and stops at Manaca, Iznaga, 10 miles east of Trinidad, where you can get off and spend a couple of hours in the area. Climb the 44m Iznaga Tower (1 CUC) to get a view of the valley where slaves worked the cane fields and the mills.
At 13:30 the train returns to take you back to Trinidad.

Topas de Collantes and Parque Guanayara

This beautiful area, 20miles north west of Trinidad, is a great place for hiking, horse riding and even swimming in its waterfalls.
You can take a tour with Cubatur, or with local guides in Trinidad that gather near Cubatur and offer different trips to the area.

We rented a couple of jeeps (with drivers) at Cubatur, and went all the way (about an hour drive) to the farthest park in the area called Parque Guanayara, where we hiked for a few hours and enjoyed the biggest waterfall in the area.

Santa Clara

If your time allows, you can travel for a day to Santa Clara. The two-hour drive from Trinidad to Santa Clara is known to be beautiful. In Santa Clara you will find historical monuments and institutes related to the Cuban Revolution led by Fidel Castro and Che Guevara.
